Communicating risk to MS patients
Oyster has written and produced a series of patient information leaflets specifically designed to communicate risk to patients.
The materials were produced to support a new blood test for MS patients - the results of the test help estimate an individual’s risk of developing an unusual complication.
Sponsored by Biogen Idec, Oyster produced four patient information leaflets; one general leaflet given to all patients (explaining the test) and three result-specific leaflets that outline a patient’s individual risk grouping in line with several factors.
Risk is communicated using graphics, numbers and words to appeal to the widest range of learning styles and abilities. Patient editors helped make sure the tone was appropriate.
As part of the campaign, Oyster also produced a leaflet for nurses, which aims to aid them in communicating risk to patients and improve counselling techniques.
