Oyster is a member of the Compliance Hub's Agency Recognition and Training scheme.
Oyster has published a guide to psychosocial support for IBD patients aimed at gastroenterologists and nurse specialists.
Elspeth Alstead, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Whipps Cross University Hospital and Noor Jawad, MRC Clinical Research Fellow at Barts and the London School of Medicine wrote the guide.
Individuals with chronic disease experience changes in quality of life and functioning in the physical, psychological, social, and occupational domains of their lives. In patients with IBD, quality of life is reduced, and has been correlated with psychological distress, social support, and coping mechanisms.
The 16 page guide covers: the impact of diagnosis; how psychological factors may influence course of disease; doctor-patient relationships, information, and clinical care; assessment of health related quality of life, psychological distress, and provision of integrated psychological support.
The guide was supported with an educational grant from Warner Chilcott UK Ltd.
